Global Warming -- Steve Bannon

Recently, I received some correspondence from my friend John Outram (Author of renown) regarding a letter to Andrew Scheer about global warming leading to the circuitous introduction of Steve Bannon.  It caused some active conversation between us, and I wonder, hopefully, if others could join in.

Dear Mr. Scheer

The column below, by Gwyn Morgan in the Financial Post is just one of many recent ones that have provided some excellent commentary on and counterpoints to the current government's position re climate change, fossil fuel and pipeline exploitation, and carbon taxation.

  1. Wow, as you say, “Something to chew on” ! Could you comment on your views of the matter.

Having been forced to read an extensively long piece of gobbledygook propaganda that could have been equally effective with 50% less content I, now, challenge you to view an interview with Steve Bannon; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xDQs5M7lHw

  2. Normally I would not spend nearly an hour listening to Bannon but since you think it was useful, I did.

Bannon looks like an unmade bed, which takes away from his gravitas. He speaks with a broad brush as if his words are pearls of wisdom.
Ok, enough criticism. Let's consider content. Can the west cause the CCP to collapse? Obviously, only the Chinese people can do that and it will be very difficult to do. Is HK enough of a spark? He thinks so but I wonder if the west is united enough to have an impact if the CCP sends in the army. For example, Trudeau would not know what to do, Bolsonaro (Brazil) would not care, Johnson has his hands full with his mess in UK, EU has to watch Russia, Putin would encourage Xi, Modi would shrug his shoulders, IRAN would cheer, other middle east states would shit on their hands (I meant sit), the UN is powerless. Hopefully, we won't be put to the test.

    What do you think?

  3. I am grateful that you agreed to listen to Steve and, although I agree that a haircut may improve his ‘gravitas’ which, if asked, he would probably indicate no interest in the importance of looking dignified.

One may question the reason for invitations to speak and debate his views at prestigious universities globally, speak in front of international government conferences (Including China), repeat TV appearances, etc. They all seem to accept his appearance of an “unmade bed”. You may wonder why. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Bannon

    Comments;

He speaks with a “broad brush”, in my view, for security and confidential reasons.
He is on record to say, many times, that the Chinese people will be responsible for the collapse of the CCP. Not the West.
He stated that the successful incidents in Hong Kong could “spark” mainland incidents, but not immediately.
Pres. XI is afraid of using the PLA because of creating a ’Tiananmen’ incident, and Taiwan’s observation.
Obviously, the West would not attempt to collapse the CCP … there are other scenarios, i.e., a coup d’etat.
BTW., The Hong Kong ‘One Country, Two Systems’ Agreement was signed my China, UK, and the USA. It is an international agreement which should ignore CCP statements of “Keep out, this is a internal matter.” It is not.

  4. Since you are a true believer in the green house gas conspiracy, I'll not attempt to change your mind. I would comment that among the parties interested in the debate aside from oil and gas, wind and sun dreamers, cow farts, and tree huggers a powerful lobby is at work, one which I support. What is it you ask?

Nuclear, my friend. Nuclear is Gods gift, it powers the universe, no CO2 emissions, steady, reliable nuclear! They build reactors small and safe enough for submarines, they can build similar, safe reactors for public power systems. Enough said.

As for Bannon and HK, I omitted several avenues for comment. He mentioned the Davos crowd of financiers, who need HK as the financial center in the East, with London in Europe and NY in US. Their motives are of course greed, similar to the CCP but more subtle. (After Brexit London will be replaced by Frankfurt and fall off the charts. Sorry!)

The other Bannon issue is the trade war between China and America. He believes the American people are united in support of HK against CCP. That is likely wishful thinking, American capitalists and their puppet politicians may support HK in the hope of winning the trade war but is the 1% in America better than the 1% in China, even under the CCP? No! They're the same people, do the same things, flaunt their wealth and want more, some wear red jackets, some blue, non wear green, except for the colour of money.

Question - is the world reverting to the way it was in the middle ages of Europe or the middle kingdom of China when all power was in the hands of a few kings, princes, Emperors, conquerors, religious leaders (Popes), and pirates. If I wrote a book about the world in 100 years that would be it. Of course, I'd have to plagiarize the work of many others but it may be an interesting challenge. Come to think of it, the war between the US Navy and the Barbary Pirates could be translated into the year 2104 when the world looks like it did in 1804. Hmmm.

Are these comments controversial enough, Bernie?

  5. Having expressed Mr. Bannon’s use of a using a broad brush to describe today’s global problems, your argument seems to be based on the use of a broad brush to describe history. Yes, unfortunate that these controversial comments were absent from a wider readership in a Blog.

  6. P.S.; It’s interesting how a letter to Andrew Scheer about global warming expands. 😀

  7. Good points Bernie. When you read my second email you'll see I believe the world is on a downward spiral back to the past. Bannon is a leader in the movement and I quote from his Wikipedia piece "After leaving the White House, Bannon declared his intention to become "the infrastructure, globally, for the global populist movement."[27] Accordingly, he has supported many national populist conservative political movements around the world.”

He's not a populist, he represents the 1% in all it's nastiness (read his martial stories), sees the world returned to small nation states that will be powerless against the ruling 1%, all people will be beholden to the 1% without rights, on the model of the CCP, will be given enough goodies to be quiet and do what they are told (1984, Fahrenheit 451, Handmaidens Tale).

Not a bright future, not what our forefathers fought for at Vienna against Islam, Paris Basitlle, American war of Independence, even Britain under Cromwell, sort of, WW 1, WW 2. It's a sad prospect, Bernie.

    You may quote me.

  8. John; you, more than others, are aware of the phrase, ’Those who ignore history, are destined to repeat it.” Steve, obviously, too, is quite aware of it. Interestingly, history is usually not repeated 100% because learning and pertinence happens. Thus, the phrase is too often used.
