POLL - (Not Religion or Politics) Facebook?

Dear Friends;  unfortunately, the last Poll added to this Blog appears to indicate a reluctance to discuss either religion or politics.  Sadly, asking Friends if they Like (To use Facebook terms) any particular subject, using little detail, seems to cause a misunderstanding.

Way back, in the age of dragons (it seems) I explained that it is my view that every subject can not escape being associated with either religion or politics.  Thus, my last Poll not only mentioned "religion" but also implied politics.  Wow, wash your keyboards!

Therefore, now, I must struggle with an explanation.  Obviously, it is not sufficient to state that everything relates to these two taboo subjects, but sustained discussion needs some controversy.  Permit me to give some examples:
  • Inoffensive Question 1 - Should Pets Be Allowed Within The Home?  Do we not create laws that require dogs to be licensed, and laws banning the possession of wild animals?  Could that be discussed without becoming political?
  • Inoffensive Question 2 - Is Yoga And Meditation Useful For Health?  Will someone mention the spiritual aspects of these two innocuous pastimes, and introduce religious comments?
I wonder if it is probable that some of you prefer to keep your controversial views to yourselves.  To that, I can only remind you, once again, that you may make comments anonymously (Concealed from everyone, including myself).

Please look at the right sidebar for the new POLL ... and, also, comment below, if you wish.

  1. Bernie my friend, are you suffering from winter blues. Cheer up, spring comes officially this month.
As for funding religious schools in our province, well, the brain trust called government agreed years ago for political reasons to fund one public school system and one religious school system. Recently when a candidate for election proposed funding a Muslim school system the people rejected him convincingly. Muslims and any group can have private schools at their own expense but must follow the government curriculum for basic education. Students cannot spend their school experience memorizing the Quran like in a madrassah in Bangladesh or Pakistan. No doubt some Muslims will push the government to have such schools and apply Sharia law for their community in the future and they may gain the electoral power to make it happen. I hope not.
As for you Inoffensive Questions, have fun and I am not interested in polls my friend.

  2. John; You seem to be suffering from a misunderstanding of titles.
This Poll refers to the use of Facebook, etc. The previous Poll dealt with Islam, and seemed to be misunderstood, also.
My motive for introducing Polls was to provide feedback that may be useful for a future (Non-political or religious) Post.
It only takes a one second button click.
    Cheer up anyway.

  6. Isn't it interesting that 100% of people (at least, of those who responded) are against permitting Websites to share user's data with other users. Yet, that is what happens.

Are you registered with Google, Huffington Post, just two examples who require you to log in with a Facebook or Discus ID.

Is unsubscribing the answer? It doesn't seem so to me.

  7. Hi Bernie
People would like their privacy to be respected and rightfully so. The simplest way to make that happen is to stay home all day alone. That is not possible of course but they can at least stay off the Internet and not use the telephone. All organizations we interact with collect our data, use it , trade it, sell it and study it. What is Discus Bernie?
BTW, I hope your extensive list of followers will visit https://www.wattpad.com and find a plethora of literature free for the taking.
    Cheers

  9. "SAN FRANCISCO, May 23 (Reuters) - Facebook Inc will no longer rely on a top-10 list of websites to help choose items for its Trending Topics section, even though an internal probe showed no evidence of political bias in the selection process, the company said on Monday."

Should we be satisfied with "an internal probe"?

  10. Facebook can do whatever they like with their property. If people count on Facebook, CBC, CNN, FOX News, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, NY Times, BBC, whatever as a single source for news and information it's their loss. In past centuries Churches of whatever denomination told people what to know and think. Nothing really changes except the pulpit.

  11. I thought that the comment related to the earlier story regarding the media ability to share your interests, etc., to every Tomica, Dilly and Hariet.

If these entities imply that sharing is not part of their business principles then they must be prepared to argue their legal position.

I totally agree with your view of those who exist with a 'single source' news opinion.

By the way, it is quite warm today.

  12. Summer has arrived for a day or two, maybe more.
I suppose the people who get their news and information from Facebook are the ones who walk along the streets and elsewhere with their heads down looking at their device. Bless them but they comprise the least interesting demographic in society today. One city in Germany put traffic lights for pedestrians in the sidewalk so those unaware citizens will see them and possibly live another day although as the Mikado said, "they never will be missed, no they'll never me missed."
