Aerospace 15 - SWISS CS100 First Flight


The Bombardier C Series first scheduled commercial flight with SWISS airline took off from Zurich to Paris today (15th July 2016).  This will be the first of many flights for the new, innovative, CS100 taking place this year with many different airlines, and bodes well for the future.

  1. Following the introduction of the CS100 in July, with operating data characteristics better than any aircraft in its class, Bombardier has now obtained statistics from SWISS that the aircraft has in fact further improved its characteristics by 2%. This is a precedent in the industry.

  2. Since entering service with Swiss International Airlines, three CS100s have completed more than 1,600 flights, carrying some 156,560 passengers to 18 destinations.

  3. Swiss International Air Lines expects to receive a minimum of 12 CS100s, as well as the larger CSeries variant CS300, in 2017.
    “We expect to receive at least one CSeries aircraft every month in 2017,” SWISS spokesperson Karin Müller said. She added that for several months two aircraft [per month] will be delivered.“but we still plan to have all 30 aircraft by 2018,” she said. 
    The CS300 should enable SWISS to deliver a more cost-efficient operation at Geneva (Switzerland’s second largest airport). 
    “We don’t have a detailed statistic so far, but generally speaking, we are very satisfied with the performance and dispatch reliability of our CS100s,” she said.

  4. Today, a Bombardier C Series Aircraft completed a landmark non-stop transatlantic flight from London City Airport to New York John F. Kennedy Airport.

    The CS100 would offer the only economically viable commercial option for direct intercontinental flights from London City to John F. Kennedy Airport

    The direct intercontinental flight followed a series of successful flights to demonstrate the CS100 aircraft’s exceptional capabilities for operations to and from LCY, including steep approach landing and short runway performance.

    P.S. This option, putting politics aside, may be useful for flights in and out of Billy Bishop Airport (Toronto) to be seriously considered.
