Video — Book Design

I have decided to increase the diversity of this Blog by introducing interestingly thoughtful videos.  The purpose of my decision is an attempt to increase readership (Believe me, not to increase my ego) such that others may feel that they have personal comments to make and, by doing so, cause discussion ... the original reason for the creation of the Blog.

Today, I have copied a video from TED Talks that a few of you have seen already but, I feel, should have a wider audience.

Please enjoy.

  1. I saw it Bernie. Very interesting. I forwarded it to my publisher who designs my covers.

Question - the title of my book is "Consequences". It is a stark novel full of implied and dire meaning. What would a cover design look like in your estimation?

  2. Are you referring to a logical consequence, or an unintended consequence, or the result of a behavior or, perhaps, just punishment.

Perhaps, even the morality of an act that is determined by its effects.

I'll have to think about it. Obviously, not the profit gained from writing eBooks.

  3. Unintended consequences as a result of behaviour resulting in PTSD for the person involved. There will only be thanks in payment for your suggestion. Ebook publishing does not result in an avalanche of money to the author. We live is a very deep subculture.

    1. Surely, physical theory safety defects should be the purview of multi-millionaire e-writers. At least, that is the image mentioned on the financial pages of the Internet these days. Perhaps, even that would be unintended.

    2. Maybe you can illustrate the image mentioned on the financial pages graphically. Your written description defies interpretation. "Physical theory safety defect", are you talking about the defective ignition key system on GM products?

    3. No, of course not, I was referring to PTSD.

    4. OK, what is your idea for the cover for a novel called Consequences involving a man suffering from PTSD as a result of altruistic behaviour that has an unfortunate outcome.

    5. Perhaps, for some ambiguous reason, you prefer an illustration that is unbiassed from reading the book.

Therefore, whilst not having the tools to illustrate graphically, you'll permit me to illustrate with words.

Firstly, there is a background of uninviting swirling mist. In the foreground there is a figure of a man. His body is graphically split vertically in into two halves. One half (left half) is clean and well dressed and is moving towards the mist. The other (right) half seems to be coming out of the mist. He is dishevelled and covered in blood and looking back to the other half as if to communicate something.

Read the book to understand why.

  4. Hmm, your idea has merit. Thank you.
